Optical ratchets with discrete cavity solitons.
We propose a setup to observe soliton ratchet effects using discrete cavity solitons in a 1D array of coupled waveguide optical resonators. The net motion of solitons can be generated by an adiabatic shaking of the holding beam with zero average inclination angle. The resulting soliton velocity can be controlled by different parameters of the holding beam.

We propose a mechanism by which a number of useful all-optical operations, such as switches, diodes, and logic gates, can be performed with a single device. An effective potential well is obtained by modulating the coupling between the waveguides through their separations. Depending on the power of a control soliton injected through the potential well, an incoming soliton will either completely...

Two-dimensional optical lattice solitons.
We study various families of two-dimensional discrete or lattice solitons, and show that they are possible only when their power level exceeds a critical threshold. In addition, we show that gap-lattice solitons exist only when the lattice possesses a complete 2D band gap. Our results suggest that these conditions are universally valid, irrespective of the nature of the nonlinearity or the spec...
Discrete cavity solitons.
We derive evolution equations describing light propagation in an array of coupled-waveguide resonators and predict the existence of discrete cavity solitons. We identify stable, unstable, and oscillating solitons by varying the coupling strength between the anticontinuous and the continuous limit.
